The problem
Whether a plastic housing, switch base or connector insulator tracks under damp and contaminated conditions decides if the appliance passes safety assessment. CTI is a hard number for material selection and certification filing, yet many factories have no such tester and must send samples out - weeks of queueing, and a formulation change means queueing again.
Capability
Designed to GB/T 4207-2012 and IEC 60112: test voltage adjustable from 100 to 600V (48-60Hz); at a short-circuit current of 1.0+/-0.1A the voltage drop stays within 10%; when the short-circuit leakage current reaches or exceeds 0.5A and persists for 2 seconds, a relay trips, cuts the current and declares the specimen failed - the criterion is current, not an operator judgement. Repeatability details are controlled: rectangular platinum electrodes apply 1.0+/-0.05N to the specimen, electrode size 2x5mm to standard; droplet height adjustable 30-40mm, droplet volume 44-50 drops/cm3, interval 30+/-1s with 0.1% ammonium chloride solution and accurate drop counting. The chamber has at least 0.5m3 internal volume, 1.2mm 304 stainless steel construction and a glass observation door so the whole tracking path stays visible. Structural parts and electrode tips resist high temperature and corrosion; the unit runs on AC220V 50Hz. Both comparative tracking index (CTI) and proof tracking index (PTI) can be determined.
