The problem
Damage rates of shipped appliances and e-commerce parcels are hard to account for: nobody knows whether the carton and cushioning survive the impacts of real transport, and a field trial takes months with unclear attribution. A drop tester gives only a single vertical shock, while actual transport is dominated by horizontal impacts - emergency braking, stack collapse, handling knocks. Turning horizontal impact into a repeatable quantitative test requires a machine whose impact speed is settable and controlled.
Capability
The machine converts potential energy into motion: the package rides a trolley down an inclined slide of about ten degrees, reaches a preset speed and strikes a rigid impact panel. Speed is set by the release position, so repeating the same release gives the same speed - exactly the repeatability package validation needs. Slide length is 3 m (custom lengths on request), payload is 200 kg and packages up to 1000x1000x1800mm fit on the trolley. Impact speed is continuously settable from 1.305 to 2.608 m/s with error within 5 percent, covering the shock levels of different transport modes. The powered trolley is positioned electrically: the operator sets the travel distance on a text display, the trolley locks in place and an electromagnet hook releases it under program control, removing the speed scatter of hand unlocking. A servo or stepper drive with chain transmission returns the trolley, and the impact counter runs from 0 to 999999 cycles. The 1000x1100mm trolley deck levels adjustable, the low deck makes loading easy, and corner blocks with straps hold the package. The machine simply bolts to the floor - no special foundation.
